What are you doing today? Probably helping a client. But just “helping” is not enough. You have to create some MAGIC. Some excitement. What follows are two words to live by every day. But first a quick story.

To kick off my GRANDS presentation, I tell a story about me and Bob Hope – yes, THE Bob Hope. I met him at lunch one summer day at the Beverly Hills Country Club back in the 90s. We had a nice short conversation and he wanted to know how my retail entertainment client could sell more of his old movie videos. I put a nostalgia marketing plan together. The client bought it and it was a success. Fast forward six months later to the dead of winter in New York City. I’m dining at the Friers Club, where the name of a member is on the back of the chair. I happened to be seated in Bob Hope’s chair.

During dinner, there is a tap on my shoulder and it is Bob saying “You are sitting in my chair.” I offered to move. He looked at me and said, “I know you. You’re the guy I met in LA last summer. I heard your promotion moved a lot of my old movies.” He didn’t remember my name, but he remembered me, six months later. WOW!

That’s when I had a magical and inspirational moment. You have to do something everyday that is REMARKABLE. It only takes one client to make it happen, but it has to happen. Why is this important? Because when you do something remarkable, you become MEMORABLE.

Why is this important? When you are memorable, people will talk about you. You become even more magical. And when people talk about you, they may want to do business with you and you get to be remarkable and memorable again. Those are my two words; REMARKABLE and MEMORABLE.
